Community impact

We love sharing our passion, our stories, and our commitment to animals with our community. We are honoured to partner with Carleton Place High School to create opportunities that benefit both the students and of course the animals!

Veggie Garden for the animals

The students of Carleton Place High School have taken on an Arnie-sized project: the expansion of a new veggie garden for the animals!

The CPHS students have been busy planting seeds indoors in the classroom and working with local business to source materials. Once the seedlings are ready, they will take a day trip to the Sanctuary to plant their seedlings. This real-world learning experience is teaching students how to effectively start and grow plants.

The animals are already dreaming of this year’s summer crop!

Student-designed and created merchandise

Introducing: Bear Necessities

This brand new business venture allows students to design, create, and produce merchandise, all while supporting a worthy cause. We are so grateful to partner with them as their first client.

The students received $20,000 from the school board and Ministry of Education in support of their big idea, which will allow them to purchase sublimation and embroidery machines to start creating merch. The students will design and create various products to market for us which we can use to fundraise towards our mission. They will also be producing some items for our Run for the Herd running event later this year!
